My denial is wearing thin and my body is wearing FAT
Oh my goodness. I was getting dressed this morning and everything doesn’t fit. I am getting really big. I should be loosing weight after having a baby but here I am gaining it! I have been peeking out from under my denial and in between bowls of brownie dough, cookies, cookie dough, popcorn etc.
First off let me say that if you ever see me write, “I don’t usually, but…” that’s a sign that I am off my rocker.
Or, if Shan offers you the too much sugar shirt, don’t get defensive “oh, i don’t really eat that much.” Get serious.
CAn I tell you what a junkie I am?
I am a total sugar whore right now. As soon as my kid goes for nap or quiet time i am making the dough - the last two days. A few nights ago I ate all but one of the cookies my husband brought home from a work function - saved only the one he decorated for my son. I ate my kid’s goldfish. I eat all the rice and pasta and bread and…
I remember when sigar used to give me a buzz. Long ago, i really didn’t eat it very often and I would get this buzz from it. Not now, i’ve built such a tolerance that it takes more for that to happen. I remember that I didn’t like the feeling that sugar gave me so i didn’t do it too often or that ’s what i think anyway, who knows my denial is so deep.
Anyway, i wasn’t a regular sugar eater - the hard stuff, candy, cookies, etc until i had kids (and when i was a kid). I would clearly overindulge from time to time but not daily. Well, now i am hooked.
Are there SA meetings for Sugar Anonymous?
It is wild to watch my beavior - it’s like when I used to smoke. It’s with all food but aprticularly the carb-y food…
Bot sure yet when I’ll get myself to rehab. Clearly not today, as i just ate more brownie dough…
UGH!!!!!!
AHHHHH SUGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Deb, suga, Deb, suga!!!
You are sweet but I don’t want to see you like that.
Well, there’s no SA that I know off. I don’t have a lot of advice other then start somewhere. Pick one thing you want to work on, focus on that, everything else will fall in place.
Look, you know how I had a hard time with nighttime eating. You also know I challenged myself - 100 days no nighttime eating.
Day 42 I’m hanging on…..mama - if I can do it, I KNOW YOU CAN!
I want to say cut the sugar out completely but I feel sorry for your hubby and the children. Can you imagine PMS and no SUGAR? yikes!
LOVE YOU!

One more thing! You know I had to bring out the troop! hehehe!

OH boy….well as someone that used to smoke…you kicked that habit and I’m sure it wasn’t easy, but you did it. I think now is a time to start looking at sugar like you looked at smoking. What did you do to help you quit smoking? Can you apply it to sugar? Have you had a chat with your doctor lately? Sounds like your body is missing something. Wish I could jump in my car and come give you a hug Deb, but you will have to settle for this one ((((((DEB))))
IT IS SO HARD WITH CARBS/SUGAR! IT IS LIKE ONCE YOU POP, U CAN’T STOP! OPRAH DID A SHOW ONCE ON CARBOHYDRATE ADDICTION—SHE SAID SHE WAS ONE. I THINK I AM TOO. I HAVE ONE BITE BUT I WANT MORE AND IT SEEMS LIKE A SNOWBALL AFFECT… IT IS HARD, ISNT IT? I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK WITH COMBATTING IT!!!
I have a heck of a sweet tooth too. I find it easiest to avoid temptation and just not have sweets in the house. If they are in the house, I put them in the cupboard above the fridge; I need a chair to get up there and usually won’t bother!
Maybe it’s like giving up soda, where the first few days are pure hell, then it gets easier.
While I am no expert, and should definitely practice what I preach, why don’t you try the sugar-free stuff? Like sugar-free pudding and jello. That way, you can still have little snacks, but without all the calories. I started buying them instead of the regular ones for my kids lunches and when I feel like I need a dessert, then I grab one. I also buy the Capri-sun raging waters for my kids. Those are also a good alternative when you want something sweet to eat or drink. I think they are only 5 calories. Experiment with different things and find what works best for you. But please….please…BACK AWAY FROM THE BROWNIE DOUGH!

I am the worst person EVER about sugar. For me it’s cold turkey. If I get sugar free stuff it’s still high in calories and I can’t eat just 1. Also I tried those 100 caloire pack candies, what a joke. I eat 3-4 at a time….
I have to just say no and it is hell the first few days then it gets better. I would get rid of all that stuff in your house and start fresh. When my sister made my husband puppy chow chex mix stuff and he hid it from me I went through all the cupboards and entire house looking for it. If it is in the house then I will find it and eat it. When I go out or am around treats I say no even though I want to say YES and I have even walked away to go to the bathroom to gather myself from eating dessert. I know it’s hard but we have to do this….
First of all big big hugs Debbie
I agree with Anj that maybe you should talk to your doctor.
Maybe theres an imbalance in your body.
You sound to me the way I get when I’m PMSing.
I GOTTA have sweets and its insane.
No matter what great plan I have in front of me it’s never enough.
Thank god it doesn’t last that long but it’s still way too long.
Maybe its hormones? Who knows? Maybe Doc might know.
I would think its worth a shot
I am sure you will get this all worked out and get on the losing track that I know you want so badly.
You are determined and that’s what will make you succeed, its also what has you so frustrated, instead of just giving up you are working hard to conquer this challenge and you will.
I admire you for that.
Take care Debbie and talk soon

Ha! I would say “funny thing is…..” but there is nothing funny about sugar addictions and although I am not aware of SA meetings, we just covered this same topic in my Y Weight class—sugar consumption and starchy food consumption promotes sugar cravings because your sugar levels spike up and when you come down from your sugar high, you need more—-same concept as drug user—shocking but true!! That is the reason why people who skip the sugar and go cold turkey have withdrawals which include headaches and nasea…seriously, no joke. You have to detox your body of that stuff…what happens is once your body is clean and you eat the stuff again, you oftentimes feel sick! Soooooooooooooooooo, if at all possible quick cold-turkey or if not, ALLOW yourself three servings of sugary food per day and slowly wean yourself off (is that how you spell wean)? I dunno, but give it a try!
I believe everything you’ve written because that is EXACTLY what happened to me after Thanksgiving and I have been struggling for awhile! Hang in there my fried!
