gym membership or equipment???
My hubby and I were talking this morning about whether we should cancel our gym memberships and ust the money towards a piece of equipment for the house. Between the two of us our memberships cost over 1000 a year. With that we could buy an elliptical or exercise bike or treadmill couldn’t we? We would use that more than we go to the gym? Childcare is difficult for me and work/daddy-hood is hard for my hubby, but we have time at night. I can imagine exercising on a machine while i get my nightly fix of tv…
what do you all think? do you have equipment at home and if so do you use it? Or is it better to keep the gym?
I do love goin got the gym, the classes, and i used the weights last year when i was rehabbing my back…also, the gym makes me get out of the house and get the childcare…but that costs more…
anyway, that’s what’s on my mind today.
Hope you’re enjoying Sunday! It’s COLDDDDDD here! Did go out for about a 45 minute walk. Brrrrrrrrrr!! Am going to the gym in a little but as well.
I bought equipment instead, and I use it every day. There are no excuses when it’s right in your home. However, some end up being used as clothing racks. Make a committment to it.
I have a treadmill and yes, I use it. I did go to Curves and liked that alot but cant afford it now. I liked that because it changed up the things you do. J has a Bowflex and LOVES it for what he does.
I guess bottom line depends a ;ot on your lifestyle and if you are ok with not getting out for the gym I say get something for home. No worry when the weather is too bad to drive anywhere either.
I say invest for a home gym. That’s what I think.

I also say home gym would love one of my own now that we have a house and room for it but the bf is being a butthead about it. We got snow today!! I hate snow.
I personally like classes and the social aspect of going to the gym so I think I prefer the gym. If I had stuff at my house I think I would use it but I always push myself harder when I have others motivating me. If I did it at home I would get distracted or be lazy and not push myself as hard. I understand where you are coming from with the kids….if I were in your situation I would get the home gym so I could watch the kids and get more exercise in.
I think I would opt for the home equipment. Not only would you save money..you would be able to exercise when time presents itself.

If you have the money, I say get your own equipment and build your personal home gym from there! If you have room in the house for more equipment, I’d say, GO FOR IT! You can build up, and collect videos and hand weights! BUT if you’re not disciplined enough, it may not work! I know people who have the equipment and it becomes a clothes rack or it collects dust!! Only you know what you are willing to commit to!! If I had the room, I would invest in the equipment, only because you’re right, gym memberships DO ADD UP, not to mention that on cold days, it’s nice to just run to your basement or garage and just do what needs to be done, know what I mean? Good luck reaching a decision!
Oh yeah if you’re a social butterfly, STICK to the gym, you don’t get much interaction with others in a home gym!
You could get bored at home. I think you need to stick to the gym….
I opted for work out DVD’s and Wii Fit over the gym. Seems to be working for me. I’ve finally started losing weight again. But I’m not a social butterfly, as Jo put it. I hate being were there are a lot of people so working out alone is relaxing for me.
I love having it right in my home. I can use it whenever I want and it doesn’t matter what i look like. I bought an elliptical (SOLE E25) it was about 1200.00 It is not the quality of the gym ones. They are about 4000.00 but it is not a cheap Walmart one either. I love it. I ordered it online and had it sent to my home. They deliver it right to you and take it to the room you need. It is about 220 lbs. The assembling of the few parts is not hard. I love all the features and levels that you can do. I love the heart rate monitor and features and the ability to set personal program files and save workouts. I also invested in some hand weight in several different weights. I feel like I have my own little gym right here.
The only thing is alot of this equipment takes up a big space sometimes.
I have found having it at home makes my life a lot easier with a baby at home. Makes getting a workout in while they nap a ton easier.
I vote for at home, I know I would use it more there! I find excuses to not go out.
I workout at home Debbie.
Started out with walking DVDs first and then progressed to weights and then a year later bought a treadmill.
I find it to be the most convenient way and I think the only way that I can actually make sure I can get my workouts in.
I’m at home during the day like you are with your kiddos and its just the easiest way for me to be able to do it.
I know by the end of the day there’s no way I am going to be motivated enough to leave the house and go workout.
There are far less excuses when you have the equipment at home.
I just find I need to keep changing it up to keep from getting bored.
Good luck with whatever you decide
